Here is one of my favourite breathing techniques: Nadi Shodana, or Alternate Nostril Breathing.
It is one of the first techniques I have learned and one of the first that I teach to my students.
It is a purification technique that the ancient texts (Hatha Yoga Pradipika) recommend practising before starting with the Pranayamas. In fact, it helps purifying the Nadis (energetic channels), and when the Nadis are clean the Pranayama is more effective.
In its simplicity, Nadi Shodana brings many benefits, first of all energetic balance.
